How Ranger uses data

Ranger finds public posts where people say they need something, and shows them to founders who sell it. That only works if the people in those posts, and the founders using Ranger, can trust how the data is handled. Here’s all of it, in plain English.

The short version

What we do
  • Use public posts from public and licensed sources
  • Show founders the post, why it matters, and a draft reply they approve
  • Keep public map pages to companies, communities and unattributed phrases
  • Read only what a connection needs, and write back as little as possible
What we never do
  • Scrape LinkedIn or automate anyone’s LinkedIn account
  • Ingest Reddit posts without a license
  • Publish pages about individual people
  • Sell or share contact lists
  • Send anything on a founder’s behalf without their approval

Where signals come from

SourceWhat we keep
Hacker NewsThe post, its link, and the author’s public HN username
XThe post, its link, and the author’s public handle
GitHubPublic issues and discussions, their links, and public usernames
The open webPublic pages such as blogs and public postmortems, with links
Job postsCompany, role and posting text. No individuals

Reddit communities may be named as places where buyers gather, but we don’t collect Reddit posts. LinkedIn isn’t a source at all.

If you wrote one of those posts

We keep your public post, its link, and the public username or handle it was posted under. We don’t add your email or phone number, build a profile of you, or publish a page about you. Only founders whose product your post is relevant to see it, inside their own Ranger accounts.

Want it removed? Paste the link here. It’s removed right away, from Ranger and every founder’s feed, and we won’t collect it again. No account needed.

Public market maps

Anyone can make a free market map, and maps are public by default so they can be shared. A public map shows companies, communities and phrases buyers use, never who said them. Individual posts and their authors appear only inside the map owner’s account.

If you use Ranger

We store your account, what you told Ranger to track, your maps, the drafts you edit and approve, and the outcomes you log. Connections are optional, and each one is listed here with exactly what it reads and writes. You can disconnect anytime in Settings, or delete your workspace there to erase all of it right away. Sign-in tokens are stored on our servers only and never sent to your browser.

Benchmarks across customers

Ranger will learn which kinds of signals and openings get replies, and show benchmarks like “complaints about a competitor’s pricing get replies twice as often as hiring signals.” Benchmarks use only anonymized, aggregate rates. Your contacts, messages and customer list are never pooled or shown to anyone else. Benchmarks aren’t live yet; when they are, you’ll be able to opt out.

Services we rely on

Hosting and database (Supabase, Vercel), AI models that read and score posts and draft replies (Anthropic’s Claude, Google’s Gemini), payments (Stripe), and email delivery. AI providers process post text to score it and write drafts. We’ll publish the final list with our launch.
